5 Cafes to Check Out

Gone are the days of fry-ups and cheap coffee; cafes these days are offering their take on specialty coffee alongside their own house blends, and serving unique and delicious food.

Brewtown Newtown - 6-8 O'Connell St Newtown

Cronuts. This flaky, sugary pastry filled with flavour is one of the things you’ll love about Brewtown Newtown, as well as their amazing tea selection.. This micro-roastery also has a beautiful retail space above the cafe in which they source beautiful homewares and accessories that you can peruse whilst sipping your green dragonwell herbal tea infusion before heading back downstairs to try a squid ink linguine. Delish!

Fika Swedish Kitchen - 5b Market Lane, Manly

When you first walk into Fika Swedish Kitchen you’ll think that you’ve walked out of Manly and into Stockholm. Everything is white, bright and simplistic and will remind you of those million Ikea visits. Something that Fika does better than Ikea is food. We had the semolina porridge and an iced elderflower to drink which both went down very well.

Sensory Lab - 75-79 Hall St, Bondi Beach

Finally they have opened their doors! Sensory Lab has been the cafe to visit in Melbourne and it was just a matter of time before they made their way up the coast to our fair Bondi Beach. Continuing the industrial theme of their other cafes it works well in contrast to its surroundings. What Sensory Lab does best however, is its own home blend of coffee that they also sell in store.

Henri Marc - 2/438 High St, Penrith

Henri Marc is a very, very, very good reason to drive out to Penrith. It has a very creative menu that will have you struggling to pick just one thing! Our pick is definitely the soft-boiled duck eggs and soldiers. Henri Marc brought Reuben Hills coffee out to Penrith, but if you’re not in a coffee mood, try the Sour Cherry Henri Temple. It definitely hits the spot!

Gumption - Shop 11, The Strand Arcade, Sydney

This hole-in-the-wall space was the perfect spot for the Coffee Alchemy group to open up a cafe dedicated purely for the creation and craft of coffee. Gumption is a specialty cafe that relies on the taste and flavour of its coffee alongside a very limited food menu. Located on the ground floor of the busy Strand Arcade, and perfect for citygoers who just want to order their morning coffee and move on without waiting. you’ll find it easily enough by following your nose.
