5 Small Bondi Bars

With the change of weather, we must sadly bid farewell to the long lazy days of summer.  Although famed for its beach, Bondi packs a punch with a pretty impressive small bar scene.  After a long day, settle down with a blanket, good company and a seasonal glass of mulled wine. Here’s our guide to the ideal winter’s night out at some of Bondi’s small bars.

Neighbourhood - 143 Curlewis

Taking up where the old Bondi FM left off, Neighbourhood continues to provide an authentic Bondi vibe. It's a bit larger than the other bars, seating close to 100, but no matter how many people are inside it always seems to feel full. The team behind Neighbourhood put the place together themselves with a stripped back industrial feel and an impressive wine and cocktail menu. It buzzes all weekend, but Sunday always seems to draw the most crowds! Make sure to try the cheeseburger toastie! (Yep, you read that right.!)

The Crossing - 13 O'Brien Stret

Bondi locals love The Crossing for it’s cosy and intimate small bar feel. More often than not you’ll end up spending way more time than you had originally anticipated. Whether it’s the music, the drinks or the unexpectedly comfortable seating, the bar’s character will instantly transport you to downtown NYC. It serves up some elegant liquor, but the real treat is their epic mulled wine, perfect for these increasingly cool nights.

Speakeasy - 83 Curlewis Street

Drawing influence from 1920’s America prohibition era  – this Bondi bar is offbeat and funky grunge. The owners were unimpressed with the bland interiors of some bars which they felt didn't comfort or inspire and wanted to create a communal space that fostered good energy. And so they have to a tee. It’s inviting, has an eccentric feel and perfect for these colder winter nights. Indulge in your favourite wine over delicious tapas plates or some pretty sweet treats.

The Shop and Wine Bar - 78 Curlewis Street

Cafe by day - bar by night. The Shop shows us that there’s really nothing they can’t do! It’s pretty small ( particularly if you’re keen to sit indoors) so you’ll have to get in nice and early. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and are as Bondi as they come. Their wine list is extensive and there’s always something new and tasty to try!  With a side of marinated olives, a cheese platter and some good company - you are in for a textbook night.

Bondi Hardware - 39 Hall Street

In what used be an old hardware store, Bondi Hardware has quickly become an establishment on the bar scene. It consistently pumps out delicious food and delectable cocktails. The food is designed for sharing and makes for some tasty nibbles. For drinks try the new Hardware Hot Toddy Cocktail and their delicious Mulled Wine, perfect for Winter. If you are adventurous the Bloody Hardware or Bloody Mary – both make good use of chilli infused vodka! They also play killer old-school R’n’B beats. Hardware nails it every time and is the perfect hideout from the cold.
