Art | 'YOU' by Byron Spencer

Fashion photographer Byron Spencer is currently exhibiting his work at the Leonard Mattis Studio. 'YOU' is more than a mere fashion photography exhibition; it's an intimate moment with a subject, and a celebration of a creative collaboration to capture a unique portrait.

The Sydney-based Spencer photographer is well known for his pop-art editorials. But surprisingly, 'YOU' is a very sober collection with a lot of black & white portraits. Spencer takes a look at the connection between the model, the camera and the photographer.

He focuses on specific details that fascinate him when he shoots: the model's lips, the outline of a shoulder or the contrast of flesh... Byron not only shows his subjects in this exhibition, he also exposes himself through his images.

About the Artist

Byron studied theatre and classical music, but he has always been inspired by photography. In recent years, this self-taught artist has become a prominent figure in the Australian fashion scene. His editorials were featured in prestigious magazines like Vogue Italia, V magazine, iD Magazine, Nylon, Oyster and Vogue Australia. A collection of his work is even on permanent display at 'BABEL Art Collections' gallery in Brussels.

Belgium might be a bit far, but the Leonard Mattis Studio is right here. So off you go!
