Shop 9A/B 9 The Corso, Manly
This little bar tucked away in Manly is a local favourite and serves some top Baja style Mexican eats. If you’re there for dinner, order yourself a watermelon margarita and share a plate of carne asada fries with friends with steak, cheese, guac and salsa, yum! It’s best to go in the week though as they don’t take reservations and no one wants to spend their Saturday night queuing.
65 Glebe Point Road, Glebe
The clue is in the name…order the fajitas! Although there is an awesome spread of chimichangas, burritos and enchiladas, you can choose from veggie, chicken, chorizo, steak, fish or prawn fajitas and double it for $50 if you can’t decide. And with an extensive list of tequilas to sample, you’re guaranteed a good night!
Excelsior Hotel, 64 Foveaux Street, Surry Hills
It might be tough to find a table, but with the old school tunes blasting and the chilled out atmosphere, you need to visit if you haven’t already. Their tacos are only $6 each and whilst you can go for the traditional chicken or beef (which are pretty scrumptious), if you’re feeling adventurous, go for the secret taco and guess what’s in it. And if worse comes to worst, you can always wash it down with a Corona.

Yes they do the usual tacos, but if you’re in the mood for some excellent guacamole (who isn’t?) then this is the place. Their signature guac is smashed tableside with Serrano chilli, pistachios and served with plantain chips, just to be a bit different. And for those with a sweet tooth, there’s no way you can turn down the churros with a cajeta and chocolate dipping sauce. Drooling yet?
28-30 Bayswater Road, Kings Cross
Going out in the Cross isn’t all about clubs and lockout laws, you can also score yourself some gourmet Mexican grub. If you don’t mind getting a little messy, their BBQ corn on the cob is smothered in chipotle mayo, cheese and lime and is ultimately delicious as is their fresh ceviche cured in lime and served with blue corn chips. And those are just the nibbles, there are tacos, tostadas and salads galore!
