The Botanist Turns Two
On Monday night in the cold and rain there was a little light shining above a door in Kirribilli. The smell of warm food and exotic drinks wafted up onto the street and enticed people in. The Botanist was celebrating turning 2!
Their name, The Botanist, makes reference to acclaimed Botanist Gerard Fothergill who searched the far corners of the earth looking for plants before opening up a modest bookshop in the space the restaurant now occupies. You can see his life is portrayed throughout everything found at The Botanist as there is a strong theme of exploration and discovery through their creation of food and cocktial menus - which uses abundant offerings of fresh produce, herbs and spices.
Once walking down the small stairs into the restaurant we were greeted with an amazing deep purple cocktail. The Winter Mule kept us warm and full of Ketel One Vodka, lime and blackberry puree topped with Ginger Beer. There was another cocktail concoction making the rounds, a Mango Mai-Tai which was brimming with Pampero, lime, orgeat and mango puree.
Just in case cocktails aren’t your thing Endeavour Beers were on site to quench your thirst along with wines such as Yealands Estate Pinot Gris, Printhie Chardonnay and Varichon Sparkling.
Head chef Timo Vogel created beautiful taster plates celebrating their new autumn menu. Platters full of haloumi toast, green pea salad, tuna poke spoons, yummy corn and chorizo croquettes, classic beef sliders and pepperoni pizza were served to guests.
The Botanist is the perfect retreat for any occasion. Happy 2nd Birthday!
