Carribbean Vibes at Rosie Campbell's

Itching for summer sunshine? Well the tropics have come Sydney in the shape of an epic new Caribbean joint on Crown Street.

This is Rosie Campbell’s where the spirit of Jamaica meets the streets of New York. Nestled behind a corner store facade in the heart of Surry Hills (formerly Bentley bar) this new foodie hot spot is dishing up brunch, lunch, dinner and supper for those who prefer to roll in a little later. Boasting a generous selection of rums brought down from the Caribbean, and a few Sweet Tings for those who like something a little sweeter, Rosie Campbells has quick become a favorite amongst locals.

OutInSydney were invited along to the media preview to be of the first to taste Crown Street’s island vibes. Drinks wise the Montego Bay Punch Mocktale (pineapple, papaya, rockmelon, sugarcane and almond) and Rosie’s Estate cocktail (Appleton run, gun yellow chartreuse watermelon, honey, sugarcane and bitters) were served up. While we still don’t understand the point of a mocktail both were refreshing and wisped us away to a tropical beach – far from the streets of Surry Hills.

The Caribbean vibes and warmth of Rosie Campbels is brought to you by the team behind Soda Factory while the menu has been pulled together by head chef Adrian Poon and Jessica Sly who are known for their consulting role over at Rockpool. Thanks to the bright colored furnishings, green leafy floral décor, zebra striped table and bright blue booths this place makes you wanted to stay all night long sipping back rum cocktails until you get kicked out.

The menu for the day featured a handful of small items that were so perfect for sharing and grazing that we recommend this is how you tackle the variety of menu options. First up was a delicious Caribbean x Asian fusion dish – Jerk Pork Dumplings. Served with home-made jerk sauce and vinegar these bites of heaven were a little bit Smokey and a little bit spicy.

The next dish had much more of a kick to them and were a stand out for us. The Kingston Corn Fritters – lightly fried and perfectly spicy this was a surprising favorite of the menu. Following this were the outstanding Jerk Chicken Sliders served on a brioche bun with a pickle and of course slaw.  These mini sliders were juicy yet flavorsome and once again had a chili sauce.

Another epic dish on offer is the Cuban Sandwich, featuring slow cooked pork shoulder mustard, dill pickle and Swiss cheese and radish toasted to a golden brown and serviced up to us for round 4.

Sandly we missed the jerk frise and the deserts on offer but can assure you that word on the street has been nothing but rave reviews.

This is one joint not to be missed so do yourself a favor and check this out ASAP.
