Everything old is new again
Whether you’re into vintage style, pop-art colour or a bit of old-world glamour, you can always find that unique statement piece at your local op shop.
Local op shops are an integral part of the community offering welfare services, meaningful work and, most importantly (for a shopaholic like myself), fashion with conscience - the practice of re-using, recycling and re-inventing fashion.
Next week we celebrate everything old that is new again for National Op Shop Week, from 21 to 27 August 2016, as the Salvos launches its ‘Fashion with a Conscience’ campaign.
“Fashion with a Conscience is about being caring, mindful and thoughtful with your fashion dollar. Sourcing your wardrobe from a charity like Salvos not only helps those less fortunate but our planet too. Fashion is one of the most wasteful industries in the world, that's why it’s so important to reuse, reinvent and recycle our clothing as often as we can,” Salvos Stores General Manager Neville Barrett says.
“Do you really need that new top or another handbag? Stop and think, maybe you could op shop it and give the planet and those less-fortunate some love instead. Never think that an op shop can't be current, fashionable or cool. You just need a little know-how and a mindful heart.”
Salvos will be officially launching its Fashion with a Conscience campaign on day two of National Op Shop Week.
The Salvos store Darlinghurst will feature a Salvos Capsule Wardrobe display to inspire its savvy shoppers, with each wardrobe consisting of stylish outfits for all occasions for less than $250 (for the entire wardrobe!) with Salvos Stores Ambassador Faye De Lanty also curating a fashion presentation, styling the models in eco-chic looks from Salvos. Customers will be able to vote for their favourite Salvos Capsule Wardrobe via the Salvos Stores Facebook page to receive a $500 gift card.
Also on 22 August, Salvos stores will be offering 50 percent off all pre- loved items, making it the perfect time for everyone to create a whole new wardrobe for less.
