The annual Sydney Art Month is taking shape for March 2016 with the full program of events released. Get ready for a dynamic line-up of talks and tours, taking place in various destinations across the city.


The Engine of Creativity 

Thursday 3 March, 6pm – 7pm

Creative Space 99

Explores the different elements of the artistic eco system in Sydney.

Starting A Collection 101

Saturday 5 March, 11:30am–12:30pm

Alaska Projects

A free event featuring industry leaders offering tips on how to buy art. The guest speakers will give an overview of what to look for, who to speak to, where to go and revealing their personal favourites.

Disrupting Tradition 

Tuesday 8 March, 6pm – 7pm

Gallery 9 in Darlinghurst.

A free panel event looking at the re-emergence of traditional arts in a contemporary context.

Can you Collect Performance Art 

Wednesday 9 March, 6pm – 7pm

The Bearded Tit in Redfern.

Looks into how performance can be commissioned, re-imagined, re performed and if it can in fact be collectable.

What the Kids Think 

Saturday 12 March, 3pm – 4pm

Collectors’ Space

Explores what it is like to be brought up in the art world. The children of prominent arts figures reveal how it has affected the way they see and experience both art and the world.

The City of Sydney’s William Street Creative Live Work Spaces 

Thursday 3 March, 6pm-8pm

An open-house allowing for a sneak peak into the hive of activity where six apartments are home to professionals in the creative industry for 12-month residency periods.

Etsy or Regretsy: Getting Started in the Creative Industries

Sunday 6 March, 3pm

kil.n.it 

Curator and artist Glenn Barkley hosts the panel talk at experimental ceramics studio. At the conclusion of the discussion take a tour around the kil.n.it studios to see how the resident artists are planning their own careers.

Newtown Graffiti Tour with Culture Scouts 

Saturday 12 March, 10.30am

One of the several walking tours that display the highlights Sydney’s street art, taking participants to discover something different about Sydney.

Artcycle 

From 3-20 March

Explore different art neighbourhoods each week by bike. The tours take place both during the day and at night, discovering the galleries and art spaces of a variety of Sydney neighbourhoods

Sculpture Walk – Circular Quay and Botanic Gardens

Sunday 6 March, 10am – 12pm

Follows the path of the iconic Sydney Sculpture Walk to see a selection of the works curated in response to Sydney’s unique environment and character.

THE FLORAL GIFT hosted by artists Anna McMahon and Sarah Ryan in collaboration with bloodwood restaurant chef Claire van Vuuren 

7pm – 10pm on 11 March

MOP Projects

From the drinks to the food, this immersive evening of art will see guests treated to an entirely flower based menu. This one night only dinner, is the second instalment of The floral gift, the first having been hosted by McMahon and Ryan in New York in 2014.
