Luke Mangan’s new restaurant revealed

New Restaurant alert! Australian restauranteur, Luke Mangan, will open his new venture Luke’s Kitchen in Waterloo on Thursday 15 February.

Located on 8 Danks Street, the once New York City-inspired wine bar MOJO by Luke Mangan will relocate to the CBD later in the year and 8 Danks Street will become Mangan’s “flagship”.

“MOJO has a big city vibe that belongs in the CBD, while Luke’s Kitchen is a true neighborhood eatery,” he said.

“We wanted to introduce the flagship in out Waterloo home…It’s unpretentious, it’s comfortable, and it’s a place where guests can swing down for a glass of wine and oysters, or the works. We’re here for everyone.”

This menu will include snacks, share-friendly plates, and sides with a modern Australian influence, with a twist from Luke himself. The specials will revolve around whole fish and hearty roasts for two, which are carved at the table!

Mathew Leighton will be the head chef, a Sydney born and bred who’s honed his culinary skills across a number of Luke’s Asia-Pacific restaurants.

Luke describes the menu as “my type of food”.

“We’re focusing on beautiful products, with a bit of fragrant spice and delivered in a way that is clean and healthy.”

Some dishes from the opening menu include:

  • Tasmanian ocean trout sashimi with nam jim coconut yoghurt
  • Roasted organic chicken with cauliflower puree, asparagus, and preserved lemon
  • Barbequed West Australian marron with peach, celery and truffle honey

The cocktails are super fun and innovative and include The Australian – Gin, Cointreau, Hennessy, lime juice, Luke Mangan syrup (lemongrass, ginger, kaffir lime), cranberry juice, and lime zest. Also on the menu is The Dank (named after the street, not the mood!) – Cachaca, apple liqueur, pineapple juice, agave, fresh pineapple, and coriander root.

Bringing a pop of colour into the inner-city hub, as well as a sophisticated and fresh palette of earthy greens and blush tones, warm hanging lighting, and retro finishes like a beaded curtain, it’s sure to be your next cool hang-out spot.
