Making a difference one meal at a time
A restaurant meal can leave you feeling nurtured and loved - but imagine if that meal could also make a difference to someone else’s life. At Song Kitchen on inner-city Wentworth Avenue, Sydney, it can and does!
Located at street level beneath the YWCA NSW’s Song Hotel (formerly the Y Hotel). As one of the YWCA NSW’s profit-for-purpose businesses, all proceeds from the restaurant, café and bar fund essential services and support for domestic violence victims.
Head chef Charlotte Gonzales-Poncet, who has worked at Merivale’s Uccello and Fred’s restaurants in Sydney and prior to that with Jean-Luc Rabanel in France, has created a menu of Mediterranean- inspired bistro classics that are authentic and well cooked.
The lunch and dinner menu features entrees designed for sharing including Sydney rock oysters, a charcuterie plate with house-made pickles, duck croquettes, and pork terrine with apricot, pistachio and char-grilled bread.
Pasta is made in-house daily and main dishes include bistro classics such as duck breast with sautéed potatoes and mushrooms, Scotch fillet with shoestring fries and crisp-skinned salmon with beetroot. The menu changes seasonally, with additional daily specials.
The wine list has been carefully curated by renowned sommelier and consultant Sophie Otton, who for many years curated and managed one of the city’s most impressive wine cellars at Rockpool Bar & Grill. Sophie’s list focuses on wines from artisanal producers with an emphasis on NSW labels and a balance between quality and value. Notably, half the list is comprised of wines by women winemakers or female estate owners, reflecting the raison d’être of the YWCA.
YWCA NSW Ambassador, Anna Bligh says the organisation is very pleased with the rebrand of the Song Hotel and the new Song hospitality venues, especially Song Kitchen, which will help fund much needed services and support for domestic violence victims.
