Mordeo Bar & Bistro Launch

Nestled in the Assembly of the Deutsche Bank in Sydney’s CBD, Mordeo Bar & Bistro is a little taste of Southern Europe. The charming décor, romantic lighting and prime location make it perfect for a hot date or after-work drinks. So, with my favourite dinner date in tow, we braved the windy winter chills for Mordeo’s launch party – keen to sample some of their warm and delicious European eats.

Dotted around and in-between the custom-made and oversized red floor lamps, European wines, coffee and La Boqueria Spanish charcuterie was on offer while tray after tray of delicious canapés circulated the bistro. These mouth-sized delights really paid homage to the Southern European feel and to Mordeo’s name (meaning ‘to eat’).

A few favourites of the night were the Pork Hock Terrine with fig chutney, Grilled Quail with caramelised red onion salsa and tiny Margherita pizzas… but that was just the beginning. The Mordeo family feeds you like you’re at Nonna’s house - abundant and moreish, you just can’t say no! Having already eaten two of everything by this point, we lined up for the buffet of BBQ Lamb Ribs and Octopus Carpaccio, both of which were so tender you didn’t even need a knife.

And what’s a night of indulgent feasting without something sweet? Little doughnuts soaked in Greek syrup (Loukoumadis) and Spanish Catalanas (think cinnamon sweet crème brulee) were being served for dessert, and made a perfect post-dinner morsel. When paired with a Red Wolf cocktail, a white wolf cream ale and Campari concoction topped with blood orange foam – which with both agreed was one of the best cocktails we’ve had anywhere –  made for a fabulos finalé to the amazing spread Mordeo had put on.

In the end, we left with rosy red wine cheeks, swaying to the lively Spanish music and feeling immensely satisfied.  Mordeo is a place that will impress your friends and dates alike. Take them on a trip to Southern Europe now.
