New hands-on dining experience at 1909

Artisan Korean BBQ restaurant KOGI has officially opened in Market City’s new 1909 Dining Precinct, forming part of the stunning transformation of the retail hub’s evolving food offering.

The latest dining concept from the team behind popular Vietnamese restaurant chain, Bun Me, this 80-seat restaurant delivers a contemporary taste of Korea.

KOGI offers restaurant-goers a hands-on dining experience whereby they cook their meals directly over hot charcoal, featuring the best new technology in grill plates to ensure perfectly seared meats every time.

Curated by Executive Chef Hang Jun Chung, who hails from Seoul and has honed his barbecuing skills over the past 35 years, the menu features an array of raw and marinated meats, fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables.

More than 15 premium cuts of wagyu beef and pork grace the menu, such as the signature Galbi marinated beef spare ribs and the marbled wagyu platter, paired with a tempting fusion of side dishes.

Other hero offerings include Korean favourite, bibimbap, a mouth-watering bowl of steamed mixed rice with sautéed vegetables and meats.

The deluxe food selection is complemented by a raft of beverages including local and international beer and wine, plus soft drinks.

The restaurant concept pays homage to General Manager David Bae’s father, who founded the first Korean BBQ restaurant in Australia in 1992. His father introduced the innovative concept of cooking meat on charcoals to the restaurant dining table scene.

Bae said Market City’s 1909 Dining Precinct is the ideal location for the first KOGI restaurant.

“Market City has long held a reputation as one of the city’s most authentic Asian food destinations. This is very befitting of KOGI, which takes its name from a direct translation of ‘meats’ in Korean,” Bae said.

“We’ve spent the last year developing the restaurant concept, with a focus on the premium quality ingredients, married with the delicate flavours of modern Korea, to create the ultimate BBQ experience.”
