Nightlife | Recap - Chinese Laundry Music Programme Launch
The guys at Chinese Laundry kicked off a new music programme on the weekend that saw some pretty interesting acts. The line-up included Doc Daneeka, Young Franco, GG Magree and Andrew Wowk to name a few.
It was when DJ Anklepants took to the decks that things got pretty weird. Anklepants is an Aussie who has been on the underground scene in Europe and burst into the limelight after his Boiler Room set in Berlin earlier this year. He combines live vocals with custom controllers and sensors that are built into his costume to manipulate some pretty amazing sounds.
Anklepants’ glitchy electronic sounds are awesome but it’s his costume that had everyone talking. Anklepants isn’t the first DJ to rock a costume or mask. Deadmou5 and the Bloody Beetroots are famous for their masks but Anklepants has stepped it up to a disturbing level.
Anklepants took to the decks at Laundry in his famous jester costume and full head mask complete with a nose that resembles a penis and seems to move to the music like it has a mind of its own. The crowd couldn’t get enough of him as not only was his music so unique but he embodied a character and put on an unforgettable performance.
It would be hard to find someone who could match Anklepants and his unique performance but lets hope Chinese Laundry has some more acts like this up their sleeve.
