Pancakes, Glorious Pancakes

Look, pancakes are challenging to make by yourself. There’s that fine balance you’re trying to strike between a slightly crispy golden brown exterior and a beautifully light and fluffy interior. So instead of cursing your lackluster Bill Granger replicas, we’ve compiled a list of the best places you can get your pancakes. Don’t mind us, just ensuring you a better QOL (quality of life), since always.

Bills  - Various Locations

Bill Granger is widely regarded as Sydney’s ‘Breakfast King’, so it’s no surprise that he earns a spot on this list. Bill pays homage to old-school classic flavours with his luscious ricotta hotcakes, paired with slices of fresh banana and a generous helping of honeycomb butter.

Cowbell 808 - Surry Hills

“The Fat Stack” Hotcake is probably the most gloriously gluttonous pancake meal you can find in the whole of Sydney. It’s two thick ricotta hotcakes, mascarpone, a hefty scoop of bacon ice cream, topped with a drizzle of espresso caramel sauce. Eat now, cholesterol later we say.

Chaos - Neutral Bay

This Neutral Bay joint doesn’t skimp on the size of their pancakes, and manages not to sacrifice their pillowy interiors at the same time. Pancakes here come with three different toppings: fruit salad and maple syrup; mixed berries and ice cream; or banana, crispy bacon and maple syrup - which is the bomb diggity because savoury and sweet together is what inspired that Usher song “OMG”.

The Grounds of Alexandria - Alexandria

If this isn’t a breakfast place you (try to) frequent already (those queues make it a little difficult), you need to re-evaluate your priorities. Here they’re served in a deep-dish style pan, leaving you salivating over three-inch thick blueberry pancakes with a lemon-infused crème fraiche, candied walnuts and house-made Canadian maple syrup.

Revolver - Annandale

We’ve come to expect great things from this Annandale café, and their vanilla pancakes definitely hit the nail on the head. Topped with apple, rhubarb, an orange compote and fresh ricotta, the flavour combinations take your mouth on a journey that is the both satisfyingly sweet and sour.
