Sydney's Most Underrated Pubs

Sydney has some awesome pubs, the only downside to many of these is that you.cannot.f'ing.move. Bar lines are redonk and good luck finding a table to devour that juicy $10 steak with a side of shroom sauce. Elbow room for your parma? No chance. Lucky for you, OutInSydney have pulled together our picks for the most underrated pubs in Sydney. They are over looked but still quality. You’re welcome.

Hero of Waterloo - 81 Lower Fort Street, Millers Point

Seeming unappealing, this tiny no frills pub in Millers Point is old AF and has the tales to prove it. For over 170 years The Hero of Waterloo has been lubricating the punters. These days they offer live music, ghost tours and traditional pub fare all in a heritage location.

The Dolphin - 412 Crown Street, Surry Hills

Oh Surry Hills, Where else can you get 8 different types of salt to eat with your food? Usually overlooked as people head for the much trendier Clock Hotel but this pub is a bit of all right. Boasting bars on three levels, an outdoor terrace, contemporary décor and an innovative bistro menu, there’s a reason The Dolphin has slipped into this list. Its also hard to go past their weekly meal deals especially 2 for 1 Mondays.

Hollywood Hotel - 2 Foster Street, Surry Hills

Hotel Hollywood - " The Oldest Original small bar in Sydney". She IS old and hell does she look it! The walls are covered in memorabilia from owner Doris Goddards days in the spotlight and the décor could do with a bit of a referb but at the end of the day that’s the appeal. No bullshit, cosy and friendly. They also have live music and the hotel even became the muse for Sydney duo The Fall’s debut EP – also worth checking out.

The Royal Albert Hotel - 140 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills

Situated smack bang in the heart of Surry Hills this pub is usually overlooked for the stars of the area (The Foresters and The Excelsior) or the plethora of small bars around the traps. This pub however it well worth a look, especially for the fact it’s linked to Bamboo Dumpling, serving up some of the best dumps in the hills.  Royal Albert also boasts a selection of craft beers and ciders.

The Old Manly, Boat Shed - The Corso Manly

The only place that stays open well after all the other haunts close. This place is a den but absolutely cranks on weekends. Well worth checking out on a Monday night for their comedy – and only 8 bones too!
