Sydney's Summer Time Salads

Summer is in full swing, everyone is heading out to eat, drink and be happy. One of the best things about summer is amazing summer salads suddenly on offer on menus Sydney-wide. Here are our favourite places to find them.

Jean Louis Joseph - Drummoyne

Heading out to Jean Louis Joseph in Drummoyne then you’ll find a lot more than their amazing Heirloom Tomato Salad with buffalo mozzarella and jamon… It’s a deli as well! So you’ll be able to stock up on cheesy goodies for the week too.

John Smith Café - Waterloo

From the outside John Smith Cafe in Waterloo looks a little bit anonymous, much like the name. However, when you walk in, it’s like a pop of the 70s thanks to its colour and retro fittings. Maybe that’s why their Classic Chicken and Avocado Salad has beetroot radish in it… it’s gone retro too.

Spicer Street Café - Woollahra

The trip out to Woollahra in the Eastern Suburbs will get those tastebuds wanting something substantial. The Grilled Haloumi Salad with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, avocado and toasted pine nuts, is a definite way to keep your belly full.

Egg of the Universe - Rozelle

Come for the yoga, stay for the food. This is how we would best describe Egg of the Universe in Rozelle. It’s a unique experience with an amazing menu, including their Perfect Circle Salad (which we came here to try!). The salad includes a selection of raw and fermented salads, cashew cream, activated nut pesto, tahini dip and some homemade raw crackers. That’s definitely a mouthful!

Wild Basket - Neutral Bay

The salad that caught our eye at Wild Basket in Neutral Bay wasn’t necessarily a summery one, even though its Moroccan origins means its perfect for the warm weather. Spiced lamb, carrot, mint and spiced yogurt and citrus is such an amazing combination of flavours, you’ll want another one straightaway!

Raffi’s Café - Chatswood

We’ve been hearing great things about Raffi’s Cafe in Chatswood for quite some time, especially their Shepherd’s Salad. A combination of Persian, Armenian and Turkish flavours, this amazing salad includes fresh tomatoes, Persian feta, cucumber, mint, parsley, walnuts, and cracked wheat, with olive oil and pomegranate molasses. Coupled with a Persian pomegranate iced tea, it’s the perfect solution to a warm afternoon.

Driftwood on the Bay - La Perouse

Heading down south to Driftwood in La Perouse we realised that this place took pride in their desserts… but we were on a mission to find amazing summer salads… and we did! Their pork summer salad with mixed greens, fresh tomato, onion and beetroot went down very well. However, there was room for one of their desserts, so we snuck in some peanut butter fudge as well.

Crisp - Sydney CBD

Saving the best, and most central, until last! Crisp in the CBD has a wide variety of choices in different salads depending on your tastes. However, if you want to pick and choose, they give you the option to make your own salad and personalise it even more.
