Where To Take Dad Out In Sydney

If like me, you are quite partial to your Dad and haven’t got stuck in the being ‘too cool for parental hangs’ phase, then you will find yourself hitting the town with the old man from time-to-time. I’ve grown up to be a Daddy’s girl, he’s my best friend and I have nothing but the highest regard for the man who has given me everything. Dad (Ross) is legendary amongst both mine and my brother’s friends, right down to the elusive mystery of his moustache (46 years and counting since the top lip was last seen).

While you and your old man might have different bonding hobbies, for us it’s beer, good banter and old school tunes – throw in some car racing for good measure and you’ve got the perfect day for good old fashioned ‘Rossy’. Here are some of our favourite hangs.

Four Pines Brewery - Manly

Located in Manly and damn good, this was Dad’s restaurant of choice for his birthday last year, he’s got a taste for a good craft brew paired with some excellent grub. Ross fancies the Kolsch beer while I opt for the pale ale on my palate when we go. If you find yourself sitting wharf side in this charming brewery we suggest the seafood bouillabaisse…it’s lick your plate good.

Modus Operandi - Monavale

Last year I took Dad as my date to Craft Beer Week in Sydney and Modus Operandi’s IPA was his favourite beer of the night, this was big coming from the man whose only tipple of choice these days is beer. Ribs, pizza and burgers make up the menu & a hot wing ‘face the reaper’ challenge at the Monavale establishment to get your taste buds tingling, combined with the guarantee of delicious beer makes for a pretty perfect place for you and your dad.

Lowenbrau Keller - The Rocks

We seem to be running with a theme here of beers and at the Lowenbrau they do it bigger, there really isn’t an excuse to not have tried a pork knuckle (and if you’re a vegetarian, your dad probably doesn’t want to hang out with you anyway). Expect your steins served to you by waiters in lederhosen and dirndls and an ‘oom-pah’ band playing in the background. Head down to the rocks and venture into this cheery bier haus and have yourself a bratwurst with papa.

Lizottes - Dee Why

Lizotte’s is taking it back to the old school, it’s dinner and a show for you and your dad, I’d probably take mum along to this one too. With dad favourites like Diesel, Daryl Braithwaite & Donovan Frankenreiter passing through the doors it’s probably going to be a concert like you’ve never seen before – there will be no sweaty, pushy mosh pits while you’re struggling to see with phone cameras waving in front of your face. You’ll be able to sit and eat fine food, while drinking beer out of real glass while singing along and swaying to the music with your parents and if you’re even luckier – they’ll pay.

If none of this tickle your fancy, nothing beats your local RSL. Footy, beer and cheap shnitty’s…perfect!
