Winter Warmers

Heading into the colder months we know you will soon be craving some comfort food so we’ve compiled a little list of places to warm you up, make you feel better and help deliver that extra layer of winter warmth.

Soup

It’s good for the soul and everyone has they faves. Here at OutInSydney we do too - so here’s some of our top picks.

Pho - Madame Nhu
82 Campbell St (Cnr Foster St), Surry Hills

Laksa - Malay Chinese Take-away
58 Hunter St, Sydney

French Onion - Cj’s French Fondu
99-111 Military Rd, Neutral Bay

Goulash Soup - Bavarian Bier Cafe
(8 Locations across Sydney)

Pizza

Lucio Pizzeria - this joint is well worth the wait (and two failed attempts) to get a seat. Traditional antipastos, authentic Italian pizzas and vinos from both Italy and Australia to match. The 4 Formaggi (cheese) is a big winner, if you need some extra comfort in the colder months.

Lucio Pizzeria - 248 Palmer St Darlinghurst.

Pies, Savoury

Northern Beaches locals will swear by the little yellow pie shop - The Upper Crust. As far as comfort foods go, you can’t pass up the opportunity to down a mean pie.

Traditionally Australian and deliciously awesome. Be sure to give the Chicken and White Wine sauce pie a whirl, you wont regret it.

The Upper Crust - 1003 Pittwater Rd, Collaroy.

Pies, Sweet

Also in this realm but on the sweater side of things, nothing beats hot apple pie severed with a dollop of ice cream. When it comes dessert pies, it’s VERY hard to go past The Pie Tin in Newtown.

Now, if apple pie ain’t your bag, then no stress - these guys also offer Black Forest Meringue Pie, Snickers Pie, American Style Pumpkin Pie and Sticky-date Pudding Pie (yep, you read correctly) among a plethora of others.

However, if you have a problem with heading straight for dessert, The Pie Tin also boasts savoury pies that can be matched with your choice of craft beer.

The Pie Tin - 1a Brown St, Newtown

Hot Chocolate

Max Brenner knows how to make a real Hot Chocolate, none of this weak-powdered stuff – here it’s the real deal with smooth chocolate of your choice that is liquefied and added directly to your mug.

Bangers and Mash

Smash Sausage Kitchen - located in Newtown, focuses on a menu offering different sausages and mashed potato and gravy. From Pork, Honey Chicken and Macadamia, Beef, Wild Mushroom & Garlic served with regular mash, roast kumera mash and even bacon and leek mash.

The gravy and sauces are just as exciting, proving the restaurant an absolute hit when seeking out a comfit food fix. Rest easy, vegos - there are options for you too.

Smash Sausage Kitchen - 512 King St, Newtown.

Pasta

Another favourite for Northen Beach locals is Livoti’s Cafe and Deli in Dee Why. Tucked up the back and slightly off the beaten path, this gem serves up some of the best pasta in Sydney - all for an extremely reasonable price. Pasta ranges from $10.00 to $15.00 and you can even get some mouth water garlic bread for as little as two bucks.
