Dessert | Candalori's New Dessert Menu

High quality Italian cuisine is no longer found just within the realm of Sydney’s usual hotspots. Head to Smithfield in Sydney’s west and you’ll find Candelori’s Restaurant; a family-run fine dining Italian restaurant that would make any suburban Sydneysider jump for joy – and also make others trek out to try it too!

Earlier this year, Candelori’s underwent renovations and now, as well as a new look, they’ve got a new dessert menu on offer.  Signor Candelori has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years, and Candelori’s itself has been around for 16 years.

It’s a real testament to the family, the service and an evolving menu that this restaurant has lasted the test of time, and it’s more than likely a firm favourite for most of the Smithfield locals. Dinner crowds arrive around 6.00pm on Saturday nights and are a mix of families, groups of friends and couples treating each other to a fancy date. The place nears capacity at 6:30pm, so it’s best that you secure a booking.

The restaurant’s two dessert chefs, Allesandro and Hayden, have revamped the dessert menu in time for the warmer season, so you’re just as likely to come for a sweet treat as you are for the main meals. The dessert offerings are either delicate in presentation or so mouth-wateringly appetising as it’s being delivered to your plate that you may want to jump the table and ram the dish into your gob.

Try the Cassata Negativo, a deconstructed Sicilian cassata with caramelised figs. This is for anyone who wants a fresh take on their favourite childhood treat – fairy floss!  This one comes with pistachio fairy floss.

If you’re a fan of cannoli, then give the Cannoli Ananas a whirl. Delicate and sweet, it’s made with pineapple mousse, blueberry and a tiny hint of mint. You’ll adore the little pineapple ‘hat’ too.

No dessert menu is complete without a chocolate offering, and Candelori’s has fulfilled their quota with the Ferrero Rocher Sbagliato. This looks aaaaamaaaazing! It’s a dark chocolate mousse served with gelato and the brownie is cooked … medium rare, soft enough to make you lick the plate if you weren’t eating in public!

If you’re after something a little different, try the Semifreddo Arrancia Rossa, a mix of blood orange semifreddo (semi-frozen ice cream) with Negroni pearls – delicious!

You cannot miss the Bombolini, which are ricotta and lemon donuts served with honey, pistachio nuts and vanilla bean gelato. However, if you’re after something light, then the little jar of hazelnut Pannacotta, served with ginger crumbs, strawberries and ‘Italian teardrops’ (adorable little drops of meringue) will be right up your alley.

Mains are reasonably priced and include the Margarita pizza at $20.00 (with buffalo cheese imported from Italy) that is to die for. Made with natural yeast so that it is easier for your body to digest, the team are also working on getting their pizza-making approved by official Neapolitan accreditation, because they make it old-school style. From their pasta menu you might want to try the Pappardelle with Osso Buco Ragu for $28.00, or, from their Secondi menu, the Roasted Quail with Truffled Polenta for $36.00.

Candelori’s is truly fine dining in the suburbs - a real gem in the western suburbs that may be your new favourite restaurant, regardless of which end of the M4 you live on!
