Exploring Crown Street

There is nothing quite like Crown St. In one moment, you’re ogling some super-stylish hottie strutting down the corner, and #nekminit you’ll probably see their complete opposite wearing 7 jumpers, ugg boots and a scarf made of rubber.  It’s this beautiful mix of totally hot to completely batsh!t crazy that make Crown St the drawcard it is. Here’s a quick snapshot of Crown St to get you by without too much trouble.

DINING

Bishop Sessa - 527 Crown Street

Paul Cooper and Erez Gordon use local produce at this well-loved restaurant – Google their Tripadvisor reviews and you’ll see many a glowing report. Their nose to tail style of dining means you’ll be able to sample their Organic Wagyu Rump Steak, Charcuterie Board or gasp Degustation menu with matching wines.

The Winery - 285A Crown Street

This is a Sydney, if not Surry Hills, institution. Sit in the beautiful and pretty garden having a lovely glass of wine or indoors having a meal (ask about their daily specials), with a lovely glass of wine. There have been many a birthday, boozy lunch or work function spent here. Don’t be the only one in town missing out.

DRINKING

Shady Pines Saloon - 4/256 Crown St

Yeeee-ha! For all urban cowboys, this is the place to be. Down the Darlinghurst end of Crown St (well just off it down an ally way) sits the Lone Ranger, Shady Pines Saloon. Decked out completely like the Wild West exploded inside, the vibe is fun and the people are nice. It’s a great place to let loose with a group of friends.

Gnome Espresso and Wine Bar - 536 Crown St

Adding this because it has “espresso” and “wine bar” together in the name of the venue. It’s a small little place, but good things come in small packages. Their produce is ethically sourced and they pride themselves on using free range and sustainable farms and fisheries. Grab a coffee in the morning, walk around a bit, head back and savour a glass of wine at sunset.

SHOPPING

Cream on Crown - Shop 32, 277-285 Crown St

Can’t walk down the street without hitting at least one vintage store, and this is the store to visit. It’s got men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, from 90s retro shirts to cute vintage dresses. Look the part and buy yourself an outfit.

Urban Bandit - Shop 34, 277 Crown St

Also nearby is this little gem, with contemporary pieces from the likes of Finders Keepers and Shakuhachi. They say they offer “high street fashion at high street prices”, which is just as well, you might be here a LOT.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

The Crown Chakra - 561 Crown St

Maybe therapy of the retail kind isn’t what you’re after, and that’s OK. Crown Chakra offers anything to renew your spirit, from massages to face and body treatments and even psychic readings. It’s basically your one-stop-shop in the hustle and bustle of the city to activate your reset button.

Outre Gallery - Shop 7/285a Crown St

Contemporary pieces and underground art rule the space here, and if it’s some eye-catching artwork you want to purchase, you’ll probably find it here. Exhibitions also run here – check their website for upcoming visiting artists.
