Bars | The Whisky Room at The Clock Hotel

A visit to Surry Hills is not complete until you’ve had a brewski (or seven) at The Clock Hotel on Crown Street, a mainstay in Sydney’s bar scene.  Since its refurbishment in 2012, The Clock Hotel has brought its A-game with great pizza, the amazing gin and cocktail menus in the Balcony Bar and now, another room to add – The Whisky Room.

Regardless of where you sit on the Whisky Knowledge Spectrum, this area will certainly make you feel at home.  Less a room in a popular pub and more your go-to destination when you want to leave the outside world behind; think your very own secret drinking den with vintage collectibles, cosy lighting and enough leather-bound books to make Ron Burgundy feel like a pretty big deal, you know.

From Wednesday to Saturday evenings, settle into a comfy booth and enjoy over 100 of the world’s best whiskies, from Islay, the Highlands and the USA, as well as Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia. You can also take part in the monthly Whisky Flight, and enjoy 3 hand-selected whiskies to highlight a region, country or brand. There are also Boiler Maker specials (a bottle of craft beer with a shot of matched whisky – sip it slowly!).

If you’re not a whisky connoisseur just yet, try some whisky cocktails like a Penicillin (Monkey Shoulder, fresh lemon, honey-ginger syrup and beautifully smoky whisky float), Japanese Plum Sour (Yamazaki, plum jam, fresh lemon, plum bitters and egg white) and the Malt Express (Black Bottle, fresh espresso, vanilla syrup and Amaro), all $17.00 each.

The Whisky Room’s Bar Manager, Daniel Molnar, says, “Whether it’s date night, fun with mates or an office outing, The Whisky Room is a good time.”  So there really is no wrong time to enjoy a whisky.  It’s a grown-up’s drink, after all.
