Music | The Basement Re-launch

Last night was the official re-launch of one of Sydney’s most iconic live venues, The Basement in the city’s CBD. It’s a shame that live venues around Sydney are slowly disappearing, but thankfully The Basement has gone against the grain to rise up again.

The Basement has been around as long as the Opera House (Hell, your parents probably know it better than you do), and we hope that, for live music’s sake, it stays around for a long time to come.

Some of Australian music’s biggest names - including The Hoodoo Guru’s, Frances Madden, The Veronicas and Ophir - were in attendance and performed short but fantastic sets for the mixed crowd. It’s safe to say the old boys of the ‘Gurus still have what it takes to rock a crowd.

The Veronicas did a stripped back acoustic set that completely captivated the crowd. The girls are about to head off overseas on their UK and USA tours, so this was their last performance in Australia for a while.

While the lineup was a mixed bag, the crowd loved it – proving just how broad the tastes of music fans can be.

The Basement’s new owners have done a great job at getting this place back on its feet. The sound was second-to-none and we are really excited to see which bands are going to be playing there in the future.

We’re predicting big things for The Basement in the future. Welcome back guys and thanks for having us!
