Our Top 4 Indian Restaurants In Sydney

Let’s face it- us Sydney siders love a good curry. So it came as no surprise that Sydney’s Colonial Indian Restaurant was awarded the 2015 TripAdvisor’s ‘Certificate of Excellence’ Award, and Aki’s & Abhi’s were listed in The SMH’s Good Food Guide 2015. With all this talk of curry we knew it was time to investigate THE BEST of Sydney’s spice trail.

The Colonial Restaurant - (Leichardt, Darlinghurst & Neutral Bay)

Winner of TripAdvisor’s ‘Certificate of Excellence’ Award, The Colonial is - in some happy customers’ words “Hands down my favourite meal in Sydney and the best curry I've ever had, both times”. Whatever curry you order at this British-Indian establishment, they won’t disappoint - lamb chops, chicken tikka, vindaloo and korma dishes are all full of great flavours…oh and those naan breads!

Malabar - Victoria Street, Darlinghurst

For over twenty years, Malabar has been serving up some of the finest Indian cuisine in Sydney. Specialising in Southern Indian flavours, their signature Baby Eggplant and Potato curry and Goan Fish curries’ are hot, yet the individual spice notes shine through. It’s also not unusual to see the head chef walk the room talking to guests and explaining his specialities with a gracious smile.

Aki’s - Cowper Wharf Road, Woolloomooloo

Aki’s -situated on the sexy Woolloomooloo Wharf – are no stranger to recognition, with a coveted ‘Chef’s Hat’ to prove it. With most of their dishes geared towards sharing - try their Chicken Piquant Curry with cashews & white poppy seed or their Five-spice lamb masala in a tomato-rich sauce baked in its very own clay jar with a little bread hat! Their prices might match their views but there’s no denying this is some of the most elegant Indian curry you‘ll find in our city.

Abhi’s – Concord Rd, North Strathfield

If you’re keen for Aki’s coveted Chef’s Hat cuisine without paying the high prices – why not try Aki's sister restaurant, Abhi's, which has also cemented its reputation as one of Sydney's best Indian restaurants. This Inner-West gem draws on influences from the major food regions of India; we recommend Goa Fish Curry or don’t go past their Chicken Makhni (butter chicken). To top it all off their BYO wine!
